Tyler Perry’s famous alter ego Madea is returning to theaters this fall in Boo! A Madea Halloween.
Perry directed, wrote, produced, and will star in the upcoming Halloween-themed spoof. In the trailer, which you can see above, Madea finds herself babysitting a group of teenagers on Halloween night. Of course, the teens want to attend the huge party around the corner, and Madea and her friends are too busy avoiding typical horror movie tropes to keep them locked up.
This marks the ninth film in the Madea franchise, with Diary of a Mad Black Woman introducing audiences to the stubbornly hilarious homebody in 2005. Since then she has gone to jail in Madea Goes to Jail, had a family reunion in Madea’s Family Reunion, lived in the witness protection program in Madea’s Witness Protection, and shared the joy of the holidays in A Madea Christmas.
The idea for the spooky next installment in the franchise originated in Chris Rock’s 2014 film Top Five, which featured a fictitious Madea Halloween movie. Lionsgate then approached Perry and suggested making the film.
Boo! A Madea Halloween will hit theaters Oct. 21, 2016.
