Since transitioning from the satirical Colbert Report to his more serious Late Show persona, Stephen Colbert has shown an uncommon ability to examine both sides of an issue. Sometimes, however, that approach just isn’t enough. On Monday night, Colbert tried to offer a defense of Hillary Clinton’s email server (“Secretary Clinton only used that private server because she knew her political enemies would put her entire life under a microscope, as they always have for the past 25 years”) before saying f— it and launching into Take the Gloves Off mode.

As the audience cheered him on, Colbert unleashed a slew of insults at Clinton, colorful ways of calling her dishonest and untrustworthy. For example, “You’re so untrustworthy that Beyoncé is working on a concept album about you.” There were several more, but the segment definitely climaxed with Colbert’s declaration to the candidate, “Since you’re so bad at lying, let me show you how to do it: I trust Hillary Clinton.”
