This summer’s Suicide Squad will be one of the first major entries in DC’s planned cinematic universe, following Man of Steel and Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. Despite that pressure, it features a cast of mostly unfamiliar characters: Deadshot, Harley Quinn, Katana, Killer Croc, Amanda Waller, and so on. All of them get to show off the film’s new international trailer. Deadshot (Will Smith) demonstrates his marksman skills and Enchantress (Cara Delevingne) does some cool-looking magic stuff, while Waller (Viola Davis) and Harley (Margot Robbie) both demonstrate steely reserve in rooms full of intimidating men. The trailer is soundtracked by Sweet’s “Ballroom Blitz,” and its frenetic action and outsize visuals (panda with a machine gun) seem to embody the song’s ethos.

But in the background, the greater DC universe lingers. The Joker (Jared Leto) stalks around with his horrifying laugh, much to Harley’s chagrin. His archnemesis isn’t far behind, either. While Batman-looking shapes could be spotted briefly in previous trailers, riding on top of Harley’s car and whatnot, this one features a prolonged look at the Caped Crusader, apparently jumping off a roof to catch a falling Harley.
