Actress gets animated in 'Justice League: Gotham City Breakout'

Of all the superheroes saving the day, Batman is perhaps the most deserving of a vacation and the least likely to take one. But whether he likes it or not, the Dark Knight finally has some time off forced on him by Batgirl in the direct-to-video Lego movie Justice League: Gotham City Breakout — and EW has exclusive clips.

Featuring Modern Family actress Sarah Hyland as the voice of Lego Batgirl, Gotham City Breakout finds her and the rest of the Bat family chipping in on the perfect gift for their mentor (voiced by Troy Baker). It’s no easy task, Batgirl says, “Because what do you buy for a guy who literally has one of everything?”

The answer, it seems, is a trip down memory lane, which sounds like a good idea until they cross paths with some old nemeses. Meanwhile, the rest of the Justice League members try to cover for Batman and realize what a tall order that is.

In a pair of behind-the-scenes clips, Hyland also discusses Batgirl and Batman’s dynamic, and her own Batman fandom.

“Batgirl’s relationship with Batman is very sweet,” Hyland says. “She cares about Batman; he’s a mentor towards her. She wants him to be happy and she wants him to kind of open up. It kind of backfires in her face, but she does the best she can.”

Justice League: Gotham City Breakout will be available on home video Tuesday.
