Former MSNBC host Melissa Harris-Perry has joined BET News as a special correspondent, the network announced Monday. Her first gig will be co-anchoring BET’s coverage of the Republican and Democratic national conventions later this summer.

“Thrilled to be in the family,” Harris-Perry wrote on Twitter. She is set to host her own specials and contribute to shows across BET News.

This marks Harris-Perry’s return to political news after dramatically parting ways with MSNBC in February, where she had hosted a self-titled weekend morning show since 2012. A professor of politics and international affairs at Wake Forest University, Harris-Perry also serves as’s editor-at-large.
