Star Trek Beyond: Rihanna shares Star Trek story for franchise's 50th anniversary
As part of the 50th anniversary celebration of Star Trek, Paramount Pictures wants to hear your Star Trek stories for a chance to be featured on their social media channels in a series called 50 in 50. Star Trek Beyond cast members Idris Elba (Krall), Zachary Quinto (Spock), and Sofia Boutella (Jaylah) have shared their favorite franchise moments, and now it’s Rihanna‘s turn.
“Star Trek has been a part of my life since I was a little girl,” she says. “My dad really is the one who introduced me to Star Trek and it just took me one episode to fall in love with the characters and just this other world that I couldn’t understand but I felt like I could relate to — and it’s never left me.”
As for her favorite character, that’d be Geordi La Forge, played by LeVar Burton during the Next Generation era. “I loved him so much that I just couldn’t wait for his scenes to come up,” she recalls. “I would be always wanting to know what’s behind his eyewear.”

Stars Zoe Saldana and Simon Pegg, Star Trek: Deep Space Nine writer-producer Ira Steven Behr, J.J. Abrams’ Star Trek actor Clifton Collins Jr., and makeup artist Doug Drexler also contributed video responses for the 50 in 50 series.
