More colorful spectacle is on display in the newest trailer and highly detailed poster art for Kubo and the Two Strings. The next film from Portland-based animation house Laika (maker of Coraline, ParaNorman, The Boxtrolls), Kubo takes place in a mythical Japanese world and tells the story of the young title character (Art Parkinson) who embarks on a quest to find a sword and armor.

He’s helped on his journey by a pair of animals, the snappish, white-haired Monkey (voiced by Charlize Theron) and the lumbering but charming Bettle (Matthew McConaughey, in his first ever voice role).

Check out the trailer (above) and these new posters to see precise portaits of the main three characters, plus the hybrid of cultures and genres (including samurai, western, and fantasy) that the film contains. The vivid posters of the film’s many settings include The Far Lands, The Hall of Bones, The Garden of Eyes, and The Ice Fields, all below.

Kubo and the Two Strings opens in theaters on Aug. 19.
