Captain America 75th anniversary: Marvel hero getting bronze statue
- Movie
Cap is coming back to Brooklyn.
It’s been 75 years since Jack Kirby and Joe Simon introduced us to our most patriotic superhero, and to celebrate, Marvel will soon debut a giant, 13-foot-tall bronze statue of Captain America.
According to USA Today, which first broke the news, the statue version of Cap will make his debut at San Diego Comic-Con at the end of July, before traveling across the country and landing in Steve Rogers’ hometown of Brooklyn. (Of course, in the original comics, Steve was born on the Lower East Side, but in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, he calls Brooklyn home.)
The statue — which literally weighs one ton and is sadly made of bronze, not vibranium — will be installed in Brooklyn’s Prospect Park on Aug. 10, complete with a fitting quote from Chris Evans in Captain America: The First Avenger: “I’m just a kid from Brooklyn.”
