Sara Bareilles: Broadway for Orlando performance on NBC fireworks show
Monday night’s Macy’s 4th of July Fireworks Spectacular on NBC is getting some love from Sara Bareilles.
The 5-time Grammy nominee and recent Tony nominee for her work composing Broadway’s Waitress will perform the “Broadway for Orlando” tribute song “What the World Needs Now is Love.”
Released in the aftermath of the Orlando nightclub shooting that left 50 dead, including the shooter, stars including Kristen Bell, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Gloria Estefan, Whoopi Goldberg, Sean Hayes, Idina Menzel, Audra McDonald, Carole King, Renée Elise Goldsberry, Sarah Jessica Parker, Matthew Broderick, Bareilles, and more re-recorded the song to benefit the GLBT Community Center of Central Florida.
Bareilles’ solo performance of the song is part of a lineup that also includes Meghan Trainor, DNCE, Kenny Chesney, 5 Seconds of Summer, Pitbull, and the Radio City Rockettes.
Starting at 8 p.m. ET, Tony winner Jennifer Holliday and the United States Air Force Band will perform during the 25-minute fireworks display over New York City’s East River.
