The date is set for a rematch between giant monsters and giant robots. Pacific Rim 2 will hit theaters Feb. 23, 2018, Legendary and Universal announced Thursday.

The sequel to the 2013 sci-fi film about humans battling interdimensional beasts via skyscraper-sized mech suits had been delayed several times, but the project showed new signs of life earlier this month when Star Wars star (and newly anointed film academy member) John Boyega was named as leading man.

Steven S. DeKnight, a TV veteran whose credits include Spartacus and Daredevil, is directing Pacific Rim 2, while original PR helmer Guillermo del Toro remains on board as a producer.

The first Pacific Rim installment, which starred Idris Elba, Charlie Hunnam, and Rinko Kikuchi, performed modestly at the domestic box office but fared better abroad, particularly in the crucial Chinese market.

Pacific Rim 2 currently has its release date to itself.
