Greta Gerwig and Elle Fanning also star in the film, from writer/director Mike Mills
A24 has acquired the U.S. rights to 20th Century Women, a new film from writer/director Mike Mills (Beginners) and Annapurna Pictures.
The comedy, set in Santa Barbara in the summer of 1979, focuses on three women, each from a different era of the 20th century. Dorothea (Annette Bening), the mother of a teenage boy, Jamie (newcomer Lucas Jade Zumann), is a devoted and iconoclastic single parent. She turns to two other women from different generations (Greta Gerwig and Elle Fanning) for help teaching her son about life and love. Billy Crudup rounds out the cast.
Mills’ 2010 feature Beginners starred Ewan McGregor, Christopher Plummer, and Melanie Laurent. Plummer won an Oscar for Best Supporting Actor for his role in that film.
There’s no trailer yet, but 20th Century Women is slated for release in late 2016.
