Avatar mobile game arriving ahead of film's sequels
- Movie
Before Avatar returns to the big screen, it’s coming to your smartphones. Mobile gaming company Kabam, Lightstorm Entertainment, and 20th Century Fox announced plans Tuesday to release a multi-player mobile game set in the world of James Cameron’s 2009 box office smash.
The new game will “update and evolve” as each of Cameron’s four sequels roll out. Players will be able to access new territories and explore further into the world of Avatar. “The world of Pandora is massive, far beyond what we are able to include in our feature films, and we think fans will be excited by the level of additional depth and detail” Avatar producer Jon Landau said in a news release.

Earlier this year, Cameron revealed plans for four more Avatar sequels, explaining that his vision for the franchise had expanded. “We’ve begun to bump up against the limitations of our art form,” he said in April at CinemaCon. “There’s just too much story.”
Kabam has previously released games for other film franchises including Lord of the Rings, Star Wars, Fast & Furious, and the Marvel superheroes. The Avatar mobile game is expected to be released ahead of the series’ next film, due out Christmas 2018.
