Inferno trailer: Tom Hanks returns as Robert Langdon
Tom Hanks’ famed symbologist Robert Langdon is back — and this time, he’s headed to hell.
Hanks last played Langdon in 2006’s The Da Vinci Code and the 2009 sequel Angels & Demons, and Inferno marks the third Ron Howard movie based on Dan Brown’s novels. This new trailer once again follows Langdon as he attempts to untangle a deadly mystery rooted in history, and this time, he finds himself swept up in a murderous conspiracy and plague tied to Dante Alighieri’s Inferno and the nine circles of hell.

Things are complicated by the fact that Langdon has woken up in a hospital with amnesia, and there’s an incriminating video of him apparently stealing Dante’s death mask. To clear his name and recover his memories, he teams up with a doctor named Sienna Brooks (Felicity Jones, of the upcoming Rogue One) as they both race to prevent a global virus from wiping out humanity.
Irrfan Khan, Omar Sy, and Sidse Babett Knudsen also star. Inferno will hit theaters on Oct. 28.
