The stars swap verses on 'The Sound of Music' classic, featured on Streisand's forthcoming album
The sashay toward Barbra Streisand’s Encore: Movie Partners Sing Broadway continues. Earlier this month the icon shared “At The Ballet,” originally from A Chorus Line and featuring Anne Hathaway and Daisy Ridley, and now EW is excited to premiere a behind the scenes look at her next collaboration, the The Sound of Music classic “Climb Ev’ry Mountain,” featuring vocals from Jamie Foxx.
“I wanted to sing with Jamie Foxx because he just has a fantastic voice,” Streisand says in the clip. “And soulful, very, very soulful sound.” Foxx’s excitement rests more in anticipating his a certain someone’s reaction. “I can’t wait for my mom to see this,” he says, “because my mom’s straight hood.” Imitating her, he adds, “Oooh Barbra! You was at Barbra’s, oooh! I love her!”
As for the song choice, Streisand is attached to its message. “[It] has faith built into it,” she explains. “It’s about taking chances, risks, and striving to be better.”
Before Encore comes out on August 26, the 74-year-old will launch her first tour since 2012. The Music…The Mem’ries…The Magic! Tour kicks off August 2 in Los Angeles, stops twice in Streisand’s hometown of Brooklyn, and then wraps in Toronto. Tickets are currently on sale.
Encore is available for pre-order. Along with Hathaway, Ridley, and Foxx, the set includes appearances by Alec Baldwin, Patrick Wilson, Hugh Jackman, Melissa McCarthy, Seth McFarlane, Chris Pine, and Antonio Banderas. This marks Streisand’s third Broadway-focused album, following 1985’s The Broadway Album and 1994’s Back to Broadway.
