The Force is strong with Ben Mendelsohn.
In an interview with Jimmy Kimmel on Thursday’s Jimmy Kimmel Live, the Australian actor revealed precious little about his work in the upcoming Star Wars anthology film Rogue One.
Asked by Kimmel if he needed to keep the role a secret even after being hired, Mendelsohn said, “Oh, hell yes.”
He added of having to stay quiet about the part, “The worst thing is, right, you’ll be walking down the street and you’ll see some kid in a Star Wars T-shirt, and you’re like, ‘I’m in that… whether you know that or not.'”
As for any other details, Mendelsohn remained mum. Does he use the Force in the film? No answer. Will he be a good guy or a bad guy? No answer to that either — even though Mendelsohn wears the uniform of a Grand Admiral in the Imperial Navy, which is part of the evil Empire.
So what did Mendelsohn offer Kimmel and viewers? His Star Wars bona fides. “I was a Star Wars tragic. I was right at that sweet spot. I was 7 or something when the first one came out. I fell in love — the whole box and dice.”
Watch Mendelsohn evade Kimmel’s questions with ease below. Rogue One: A Star Wars Story is out Dec. 16.
