Disney XD’s upcoming series LEGO Star Wars: The Freemaker Adventures debuts Monday, and EW has a behind-the-scenes first look at the “building” that went into this sci-fi project.

The story in this LEGO creation takes place between The Empire Strikes Back and The Return of the Jedi, focusing on the Freemaker siblings. They are a young family of scavengers that sifts through the remnants of the great empire and resistance battles for parts.

In the video, above, executive producers Bob Roth and Bill Motz describe the origins of their story and how it fits into the rest of the Star Wars universe. “The Kyber saber was created by an ancient Jedi. It was the very first lightsaber,” explains Roth. The overwhelming strength of the saber causes the force wielder to separate its pieces and spread them across the galaxy. “There’s this race to see who can get the pieces and put it together first,” adds Motz. “Will it be our heroes or the bad guys?”

The clip also reveals several familiar faces, including main baddies themselves, Darth Vader and the Emperor. Maz, a recent addition to the universe, will be a character that the scroungers visit, tying in the possibility for some Force Awakens action later on in the series.

Nicolas Cantu, who voices Rowan, likes the mix of the two popular brands. “It has the awesome storytelling you expect from Star Wars and also the super funny humor you’ve come to know from LEGO shows.”

Humor and adventure are the driving force behind this new collaboration, and fans can get in on the action when LEGO Star Wars: The Freemaker Adventures premieres Monday, June 20 on Disney XD.
