The Office movie: Ricky Gervais' David Brent lives Life on the Road in new trailer
Think you’ve seen the last of David Brent? Think again. Ricky Gervais reprises his belovedly awkward character from The Office in a new movie called David Brent: Life on the Road, and the latest trailer shows what the world makes of him.
Gervais directs the film, and contributes original music and lyrics. The story picks up with David 12 years after the BBC mockumentary when he tries to make his rockstar dreams come true. He takes unpaid leave from his job as a traveling salesman for a cleaning and ladies’ personal hygiene products company to tour the U.K. with his band, Foregone Conclusion.
As one might expect, you can’t turn your eyes away from this trainwreck. David accidentally fires a T-shirt canon into a woman’s head, he enlists a rapper named Dom (Ben Bailey Smith) to give him more street cred, and sings about people who are overweight. “You think it’s painful to watch, I have to stand next to him,” says Dom.
David Brent: Life on the Road is scheduled for theaters in the U.K. and Ireland on Aug. 19. Earlier this month, Gervais revealed that Netflix will stream the film for the rest of the world. “Which is great for me,” he said at the time, “because I’d rather 20 million people see it than half a million people see it in cinemas.”
The mockumentary-style sitcom chronicles a group of typical office employees working 9-5 at the Scranton branch of the Dunder Mifflin Paper Company.
