Has the Dalai Lama ever seen the movie Caddyshack? Fox News anchor Bret Baier decided to ask the man himself during a recent interview, yielding awkward results.

Baier told his audience he had to ask, alluding to a moment in the film where Bill Murray‘s Carl Spackler describes becoming a caddy to the Dalai Lama in Tibet. As the scene goes, “I say, ‘Hey, Lama, hey, how about a little something, you know, for the effort, you know?’ And he says, ‘Oh, uh, there won’t be any money, but when you die, on your deathbed, you will receive total consciousness.’ So I got that goin’ for me, which is nice.”

But the real Dalai Lama, who has never seen nor heard of Caddyshack, was perplexed by Baier’s question. The anchor followed up by asking if he ever played golf, which only enhanced the awkwardness.

On Twitter, Baier commented on the interaction, writing “Had to give it a shot. If he had said ‘goongahlahgoongahlah’ – I would’ve fallen out of the chair.”
