Seth Meyers comments on Donald Trump 'Late Night' ban
One night after banning Donald Trump from appearing on NBC’s Late Night With Seth Meyers, host Seth Meyers stood by his banishment of the presumed Republican presidential nominee.
“We instituted this ban despite the fact that he’s never been here, or asked to be here, or would ever be caught dead here. I just think that takes an amazing amount of courage on our part,” Meyers joked. On Tuesday’s show, Meyers said Trump would be forbidden from appearing on Late Night because he had banned the Washington Post from receiving press credentials to cover his campaign. The Post is one of a number of publications, including Huffington Post and BuzzFeed, that Trump has blocked during the election cycle.
“So, ball is in your court, Donald,” Meyers added on Wednesday night. “Either rescind your Washington Post ban or you’re not allowed to appear on a show you have no interest in appearing on. Although maybe not that you can’t have it, you’re changing your mind.”
That’s doubtful for now, at least according to Trump himself. Late Wednesday, the former reality television host released a statement about Meyers’ ban, mocking the host’s ratings. “He has begged me to do the show for the last two years. I have told him emphatically ‘no,'” Trump said. “I only like doing shows with good ratings, which as everybody knows, I only make better (by a lot).”
