Dixie Chicks honor Orlando victims at Madison Square Garden show
The Dixie Chicks continued their tour on Monday night at New York’s Madison Square Garden, where they paid tribute to the 49 victims of the Orlando shooting, who were killed in a gay nightclub early Sunday morning.
To mark their deaths, the Dixie Chicks sang Ben Harper’s “Better Way” in front of a rainbow-colored heart to show solidarity with the LGBTQ community and invited their children on stage to sing back-up.
“We cannot let the hatred and the anger win out,” frontwoman Natalie Maines told the crowd, per Newsday. “We gotta put positivity out there in the universe.”
After news spread of the mass shooting, the group wrote a note on Twitter and said, “Our hearts and thoughts go out to the friends and families who have lost their loved ones to violence in Orlando this week. It’s so important during these times to stay united as people against this misguided hatred. #Peaceandlovepeaceandlove.”
