Nicolette Robinson pens sweet note about husband Leslie Odom Jr.’s Tony nomination
If there’s a Tony Award for cutest couple walking the red carpet, it might have to go to Hamilton star Leslie Odom Jr. and his wife, Nicolette Robinson.
Ahead of Sunday’s Tony Awards, Robinson posted a photo from the opening night of Hamilton and wrote a touching note about her husband’s first-ever Tony nomination.
“As little kids, we grew up in our separate households across the country from one another, watching the Tony Awards and dreaming that some day we would be a part of that world,” she wrote on Instagram. “I sit here the morning of Tony day, as you are nominated for Best Lead Actor in a Musical, and I can’t help but think of the little girl (me) and little boy (you) who would be beside themselves with joy.”
Robinson, an actress who met Odom when they both worked together on a production of Once on This Island, also reflected on the pair’s time together. “In the almost 8 years that we’ve been together we have seen incredible highs, deep lows, doors slammed, survival jobs, not knowing how we’d pay our rent… But you always knew your passion, clung tight to your spirituality, maintained your perseverance, and followed your instincts,” she wrote.
Odom is nominated for his role as Aaron Burr in the smash musical Hamilton, going up against his costar (and show creator) Lin-Manuel Miranda. In all, Hamilton is nominated for a record 16 Tonys.
Odom also took over EW’s Instagram to chronicle his pre-Tonys day, from rehearsing with the Hamilton cast to walking the red carpet with Robinson. Check out all of Odom’s photos at EW’s Instagram page, and head here to see the full list of Tony Award winners.
