Watch the throne — Disney’s first Latina princess is ready to debut her own animated series.

Elena of Avalor will make its one-hour premiere Friday, July 22, at 7 p.m. ET on the Disney Channel, the network announced Thursday.

Starring Dominican-American actress Aimee Carrero (Young & Hungry) in the title role, Elena of Avalor tells the story of a brave teenager who has saved her kingdom from an evil sorceress and must now learn to rule as a crown princess until she’s old enough to be queen.

Guest voices will include Constance Marie, Lou Diamond Phillips, Danny Trejo, and Ivonne Coll.

Although Elena is set in a fairy-tale land, Disney has said the series will “incorporate influences from diverse Latin and Hispanic cultures,” including music, architecture, food, folklore, and traditions.

Disney is also planning several Elena tie-ins, including a TV movie titled Elena and the Secret of Avalor (due in the fall), theme park appearances by the character, and all manner of merchandise.
