Archie is officially back, as you’ve probably heard. The titular redhead himself has an acclaimed solo comic book, Betty and Veronica are getting their own series in July, and live-action TV adaptation Riverdale is set to debut on the CW this fall. Now there’s even more. A new Josie & the Pussycats comic series, featuring the exploits of Riverdale’s most popular all-girl rock band, will be out in September.
According to Archie Comics, the new series will feature Josie uniting the band to take their big shot at musical stardom, only to contend with the machinations of Alexandra Cabot, the ever-Machiavellian daughter of the Pussycats’ manager.
Marguerite Bennett and Cameron DeOrdio will write the series, with art by Audrey Mok. Mok also draws the cover of the first issue (see above), but as with Betty & Veronica, Josie & the Pussycats #1 will also feature variant covers from fellow Archie Comics artists Veronica Fish (Archie) and Francesco Francavilla (Afterlife with Archie). Check those out below.
“When I read a comic like this, I want to be having fun,” DeOrdio says in a statement to EW. “That can mean a lot of different things, of course, but Josie and the gang have always represented a very specific kind of fun, with a focus on friendship and joy and music, and that’s definitely something we’ve tried to capture in this book.”
Josie & the Pussycats #1 hits comic stores Sep. 28.
