Country music is often an art form about dealing with pain and loss, and there is, perhaps, no better modern chronicle of pain and loss than FML, that collection of anonymous indignities. So during Ethan Hawke’s appearance on The Tonight Show Monday night, he and host Jimmy Fallon combined the two things, singing various FML posts in a country music style.

Highlights included Hawke singing about the person who ended up on a date with their dentist after using laughing gas and Fallon’s description of the student who got a history paper back with every line crossed out. Hawke and Fallon even sang the last one together: “Today I told my 3-year-old daughter to behave or I’d spank her. She looked at me and said, ‘Bring it.’ FML.”
