Even Captain America has to beg for work sometimes — let’s just hope it’s not with Hydra.

On Wednesday, Chris Evans posted a throwback photo on Twitter of a cover letter he sent out to casting directors back in the summer of 1998. A then-17-year-old Christopher Evans (as he called himself then) filled the mailboxes of “dozens” of casting agencies, trying to nab a summer internship in New York City. Read the full letter, in all its hilarious, awkward glory, below.

Things ended up working out for Evans. In a follow-up tweet, he revealed he did in fact land an internship that summer.

Of course, landing that internship wasn’t Evans’ only success. His latest film, Captain America: Civil War, passed the $1 billion mark last month at the global box office, becoming the highest-grossing movie so far this year.
