There are a number of memorable scenes in The Lonely Island’s new mockumentary Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping. There’s the scene where Andy Samberg’s delusional rapper/singer Conner4Real raps about having sex with a girl obsessed with Osama Bin Laden’s death. There’s the scene where acclaimed singer Seal gets attacked by wolves during a marriage proposal gone wrong. And then there’s the scene where a male fan presses himself up against the window of Conner’s limo, pants down, in an extended shot of full-frontal nudity.

Over the course of the Popstar press tour, the Lonely Island have insisted that the mysterious genitals belong to producer Judd Apatow, telling everyone from Page Six to Billboard that yes, the man in the scene really is Apatow.

Samberg recently told PEOPLE, “We’re not supposed to talk about it [but] it’s Judd Apatow. If you ask him, he’ll confirm it. But far be it for us to say. It’s his to say.”

So, PEOPLE did just that: They asked Apatow whether it was really him going pantsless in that scene. And, just as Samberg promised, Apatow responded and (jokingly?) said that it was him.

“Why did I do it? I just felt like I had asked so many people to get naked for comedy [i.e. Jason Segel’s full frontal scene in Forgetting Sarah Marshall] that in this instance I should give back and show that I can walk the walk,” Apatow wrote in an email to PEOPLE. “So to speak. It’s not actually walking.”

So, there you have it. It’s definitely, totally Apatow in that scene, no questions asked, case closed, and it’s not just an elaborate prank by Apatow and the Lonely Island guys. They don’t really seem like big pranksters, anyway.

Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping is in theaters now.
