Star Trek: The Original Series

This year marks the 50th anniversary of the Star Trek franchise, and to commemorate the occasion, CBS has teamed up with Mattel to create an exclusive line of Kirk, Spock, and Uhura dolls from the Barbie collection. Capturing the spirit of the original series – an era which this summer’s Star Trek Beyond will revisit – the dolls feature the old-school Federation attire, complete with the Starfleet insignia and the pop art color scheme. You can check out an exclusive image of the Trek Barbie dolls above; the dolls are $34.95 and will be in retail stores later this month.

The Barbie collaboration is merely one of many ways Trek is being celebrated this year. At Comic-Con, MAC will introduce a collection of makeup themed around some of the franchise’s most memorable female characters. MEGA Bloks is debuting a Trek line, allowing children of all ages to recreate the devastating wonder of “City on the Edge of Forever.” And this fall, you can even buy an Enterprise drone. Major Trek events this year include Star Trek: Mission New York, a massive convention being held in September in Manhattan, and Trek Talks, a live event series running through next summer.

And if that’s not enough Trek for you, be sure to check out my weekly deep dives into the Star Trek movies, from the beautiful and inhuman Motion Picture to the brilliant Wrath of Khan, from the transcendent heights of The Voyage Home to the always intriguing depths of Search for Spock and The Final Frontier.
