Well, this is not aca-awesome: EW has confirmed that Elizabeth Banks has stepped away from directing Pitch Perfect 3.
The actress, who directed Pitch Perfect 2 to huge box office sucess, will still produce the third installment and appear once again as a capella judge Gail.
The news comes after the Pitch Perfect 3 release date was pushed back this week, from a summer 2017 date to Dec. 22 of that year. The film will once again feature Anna Kendrick, Rebel Wilson, and Brittany Snow as stars.

Released last spring, Pitch Perfect 2 grossed $287 million worldwide. The film earned the best debut for a first-time director, and also scored the second highest grossing opening for a female director, right behind Sam Taylor-Johnson’s Fifty Shades of Grey.
