Ellen Pompeo signs new deal with 'Grey's Anatomy'
- TV Show
Rest assured, Grey’s Anatomy fans: Ellen Pompeo isn’t going anywhere.
EW has learned that the star of ABC’s most-popular drama has signed a new deal that will keep her at Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital.
Though specific terms of her new pact haven’t been revealed, it’s believed that Pompeo is now one of the highest-paid actresses on the small screen. In 2015, Forbes reported that Pompeo was the fourth-highest earning actress, with $11.5 million (Modern Family star Sofia Vergara and The Big Bang Theory lead Kaley Cuoco were tied for first with $28.5 million; Modern Family actress Julie Bowen was ranked No. 3, at $12 million.)
Grey’s Anatomy just wrapped its 12th season as the network’s No. 1 drama and biggest success story. After Patrick Dempsey’s character was axed last season (when Dempsey still had one year left on his contract), the series, over multiple platforms, went on to enjoy a 6 percent jump in ratings this season versus last among adults 18–49. It also saw a double-digit increase among women 18–34.
Pompeo wasn’t alone at the negotiation table recently. After Sara Ramirez announced she was leaving the show that made her a household name, costars Justin Chambers, Chandra Wilson, James Pickens Jr., and Kevin McKidd have remained in talks to secure new deals. All of their pacts expire this month.
