“I dunno what the hell’s in there, but it’s weird and pissed off, whatever it is.”

Horror imprint Scream Factory announced Tuesday that it will release a two-disc Blu-ray collector’s edition of director John Carpenter’s classic 1982 chiller The Thing this fall. The set will include new artwork and extras.

Set at a remote research station in the Antarctic, Carpenter’s film stars Kurt Russell as a helicopter pilot who must battle an alien creature capable of imitating other organisms. Based on John W. Campbell’s novella Who Goes There?, the film boasts ground-breaking — and, some argue, never-bettered — practical monsters created by makeup effects legend Rob Bottin. A box office office flop when it was originally released, The Thing is now considered by many genre fans to be the best horror film of all-time.
