Brent Spiner‘s Dr. Brackish Okun isn’t dead. When last we saw the Area 51 scientist, he was lying motionless on the ground after a seemingly fatal incident with an alien in Independence Day. However, the character rises from the grave — or, at the very least, a deep slumber — in the latest clip from the sequel.

“You’re awake,” exclaims now former President Whitmore (Bill Pullman), and just in time. The Independence Day: Resurgence clip also shows a crop of aliens monitored by the government, and they’re shrieking their heads off. According to Okun, “They’re not screaming. They’re celebrating.” That can’t be a good thing.

Speaking with Yahoo Movies during CinemaCon, Spiner had a brief explanation for his character’s return. “People jumped to that,” he said, referring to the assumption of Okun’s death. “They always jump to ‘You must be dead’ if you’re laying on the ground. But they’re wrong.”
