Asa Butterfield starred as an earthly teenager sent to the far reaches of the galaxy in the sci-fi action flick Ender’s Game, and now he’s doing just the opposite as a young man raised on Mars who returns to Earth for love in The Space Between Us — and EW has an exclusive first look at the film’s new trailer.

Having maintained consistent contact via instant messages and computer screens, a street-smart Colorado girl, Tulsa (Britt Robertson), forms a romantic bond with Gardner (Butterfield), who grew up in a space station on Mars after his astronaut mother died during childbirth on the red planet. The Space Between Us charts the blossoming romance between the pair as, against the advice of the scientists who raised him, Gardner travels to Earth to meet Tulsa, putting his weak internal organs (and the couple’s relationship) to the test.

The Space Between Us will be released on Aug. 19. Watch the new trailer in the video above, and check out the film’s poster, below.
