What’s a network to do when trying to create a viral moment on par with Ellen DeGeneres’ record-breaking Oscar selfie, only without having Ellen DeGeneres on hand? The answer, it seems, is to get the next best thing: Kate McKinnon.

Regular Saturday Night Live and Ellen viewers know that McKinnon does a pitch-perfect impression of the affable talk show host, and she put her skills to good use at NBCUniversal’s upfront presentation Monday in New York.

Introduced by Seth Meyers in the flesh and DeGeneres herself in a video message, McKinnon appeared sporting an Ellen-esque blazer and a short blond coiffure.

To recreate DeGeneres’ famous photo — which was snapped at the 2014 Academy Awards with Jennifer Lawrence, Brad Pitt, Meryl Streep, and many more — McKinnon rounded up celebrities including Jennifer Lopez, Ray Liotta, Khloe and Kourtney Kardashian, Martin Short, and Elizabeth Hurley.

Unlike DeGeneres, who enlisted Bradley Cooper as cameraman, McKinnon employed a selfie stick. We’ll leave it to you to decide whether or not that’s cheating. Check out McKinnon’s photo above and DeGeneres’ original below.
