CBS ditches Nancy Drew reboot plan
Nancy Drew isn’t getting a modern-day update on CBS after all.
The network passed on greenlighting its heavily buzzed-about pilot, which starred Sarah Shahi (Person of Interest) as a grown-up version of the famous teen sleuth who’s now solving homicide cases as a detective in New York City.
CBS previously made headlines by announcing that executives planned to cast a diverse actor (Shahi is Iranian and Spanish) as the iconic character in a radically different conception of the classic teen novels. Even the project’s name was updated, from Nancy Drew to the shorter, punchier Drew. The official description: “Now in her 30s, Nancy is a detective for the NYPD where she investigates and solves crimes using her uncanny observational skills, all while navigating the complexities of life in a modern world.”
CBS Studios isn’t giving up on the project, however. We hear the company is shopping the pilot to other potential networks for series consideration.
