The man responsible for FX’s The Shield will now make an action-adventure series for NBC.

Shawn Ryan is teaming with Eric Kripke (Revolution, Supernatural), and the producers of The Blacklist to make Timeless, a new drama ordered to series by NBC on Friday.

The action begins when a mysterious criminal steals a secret state-of-the-art time machine, intent on destroying America by changing the past. Here’s the rest of the description from NBC: “Our only hope is an unexpected team: a scientist, soldier, and history professor who must use the machine’s prototype to travel back in time to critical events. While they must make every effort not to affect the past themselves, they must also stay one step ahead of this dangerous fugitive. Can this handpicked team uncover the mystery behind it all and end his destruction before it’s too late?”

The cast includes Abigail Spencer, Matt Lanter, Malcolm Barrett, Goran Visnjic, Paterson Joseph, Sakina Jaffrey, and Claudia Doumit.

NBC announced several cancellations on Friday, including Telenovela, Crowded, and Undateable. There’s still no word on the fate of The Carmichael Show, The Mysteries of Laura, Strong , and Caught on Camera with Nick Cannon.

NBC will present its complete fall 2016 lineup to advertisers Monday in New York City.
