Deadpool 2: Dolph Lundgren wants to play Cable in Marvel movie sequel
Dolph Lundgren played comic book anti-hero Punisher in the 1989 film from director Mark Goldblatt, but he’s not opposed to re-entering the Marvel universe. In fact, he already has his eye on a character.
“I haven’t watched a lot of these superhero movies,” Lundgren admitted to Nerdist, but he did hear of the superhero with “the funny mask,” Deadpool. He said, “Isn’t there a character named Cable that’s coming? Like, he’s a big guy?” When asked if he wanted to play him in Deadpool 2, he answered, “Well, I guess I could kick some butt doing that, I suppose. We’ll see.”
Cable, a telekinetic and telepathic gun-slinger with a bionic arm, shared a comic series with Deadpool called Cable & Deadpool from Robert Leifeld and Fabian Nicieza. Before the movie sequel was formally announced by 20th Century Fox, a post-credits scene attached to Deadpool saw the Merc with the Mouth announcing Cable in the next chapter.
Lundgren, who will be seen next in Kindergarten Cop 2, is well aware that he at least looks the part. But he has some competition. Avatar actor Stephen Lang threw his name into the casting pool a while back, tweeting, “Let’s lay some CABLE. You know I want it.”
Deadpool 2 will reunite director Tim Miller, Ryan Reynolds, and the creative team for the Merc’s continuing saga. A release hasn’t been formally announced, though Fox has staked out a couple dates for unannounced Marvel projects.
