Horror punk outfit Misfits have announced two reunion shows with their original lineup. The headlining gigs, planned for Riot Fest’s Denver and Chicago stops in September, mark the first time classic members Glenn Danzig, Jerry Only, and Doyle Wolfgang von Frankenstein have performed together since 1983.

This configuration of the New Jersey band, which Riot Fest is billing as “The Original Misfits,” performed together from 1980 to 1983. Danzig formed Misfits in 1977 and Only, whose given name is Gerald Caiafa, Jr., joined as bassist shortly after. Caiafa’s younger brother Paul served as the band’s roadie until joining as a guitarist in 1980 and assuming Doyle Wolfgang von Frankenstein as his stage name. Along with drummer Arthur Googy, this lineup recorded the band’s first two albums, 1982’s Walk Among Us and 1983’s Earth A.D./Wolfs Blood.

Danzig departed the band in 1983, forming Samhain and later his own eponymous band. Only and Frankenstein have performed in various configurations of the group with other musicians, but Danzig has not returned to the Misfits since his initial departure.

Riot Fest’s Denver iteration is set for September 2-4, while its Chicago installment will occur September 16-18. Full lineup details have not yet been announced.
