In the 20 years since fighting off an alien invasion, the people of Independence Day seem to have learned a thing or two about survival. As the latest promo for upcoming sequel Independence Day: Resurgence demonstrates, the first thing on that list was the formation of the Earth Space Defense. The teaser mostly takes the form of a recruitment video, explaining that “we have found strength in unity as a planet.” Apparently, after fighting off the first movie’s invasion (referred to here as “the War of ’96”), the U.S. Army went around recruiting various countries into forming the Earth Space Defense, to make sure it never happened again. Then again, no amount of preparation might be enough for the arrival of the alien mothership, which is very big.
