Ahead of its live premiere on Monday night’s The Voice, Blake Shelton and Gwen Stefani’s highly-anticipated duet has hit the web.
Titled “Go Ahead and Break My Heart,” the song seems to draw inspiration from their much-documented real-life relationship, touting lyrics about leaving behind fresh heartbreak only to leap into new romance. “I never meant to get so into you/ Thought I was using you just to get me through/ You know I’m broken, I don’t trust anyone/ Last thing I needed was to fall in love,” Stefani sings on the big-chorus country ballad.
The track will appear on Shelton’s forthcoming 10th LP, If I’m Honest, out May 20. He took to Twitter to share the song, though apparently its release was a surprise to even the singer. “It’s out?!!! Yay!!!” he wrote online.
The couple recorded the single last fall, marking their first major musical collaboration. “We were at a point where it’s like, ‘Do we want to go there? What will people think?’ And then we finally just got to the point where it’s like, ‘You know what? I don’t give a s—,” Stefani previously told PEOPLE of the song.
“I love this song! This song’s important to us and the fact that we wrote it together is so important to both of us,” Shelton added.
