Ryan Reynolds “was born to play” the Merc with the Mouth — at least according to Deadpool director Tim Miller. In an exclusive featurette, Miller explains what Reynolds brings to the part.
“Ryan was born to play this role. His personality and his DNA is really infused in this character,” Miller says. “He’s got this ‘boy next door,’ ‘nice guy’ look about him, and he really is that guy,” he adds. “He’s literally the nicest guy I’ve ever met, but he’s also nasty.”
The clip, part of the “From Comics to Screen… to Screen” featurette on Deadpool‘s Blu-ray release, also features X-Men producer Simon Kinberg singing Reynolds’ praises. “This character of Deadpool was just made from heaven for Ryan Reynolds, or Ryan was made for it,” he says. “Either way, there is something about Deadpool that accesses the entire range of Ryan Reynolds.”
