Remember all those times we watched 24 and dreamed of a Kiefer Sutherland presidency?

We’re about to get our wish. ABC has ordered a drama pilot to series that will star the former Jack Bauer as a U.S. cabinet member who unexpectedly becomes president in Designated Survivor. It’s for the 2016-17 TV season.

Sutherland’s character, Tom Kirkman, moves to the Oval Office after an attack on Washington in an attempt to “prevent the country and his own family from falling into chaos,” according to ABC.

Sutherland is also one of the executive producers on the series. It’s becoming a comfortable role for him: he’ll also exec produce 24: Legacy, the next chapter in the 24 saga, at Fox in the fall. However, he won’t appear in the new iteration that’s from Howard Gordon, Brian Grazer, Manny Coto, Evan Katz, and Stephen Hopkins.

In the coming days, ABC is expected to announce more pilot pickups in preparation for its presentation to advertisers in New York on May 17.
