Idris Elba joins Jessica Chastain in Aaron Sorkin's Molly's Game
Idris Elba is ready to put on his poker face.
The Beasts of No Nation and Star Trek Beyond actor has joined Jessica Chastain in Molly’s Game, Aaron Sorkin’s film about a world-class skier who started running high-stakes card games after failing to make the Olympics. The Mark Gordon company announced the news Friday.
Oscar-winning screenwriter Sorkin, known for his scripts for films including A Few Good Men and The Social Network, will make his directing debut on Molly’s Game, which he adapted from Molly Bloom’s memoir of the same name.
Chastain (Crimson Peak, Zero Dark Thirty) will play Bloom, who operated an exclusive poker game attended by Hollywood stars, pro athletes, business tycoons, and Russian mobsters for years before she was arrested by the FBI. Elba will portray her criminal defense lawyer.
Mark Gordon and Amy Pascal are producing.
“The casting of Jessica and Idris in the two lead roles is any filmmaker’s dream come true,” Sorkin said in the announcement. “They’re two of the greatest actors of their generation, paired for the first time, and their chemistry will be electric.”
