Thanks to his rampant use of the social media platform in the last year, DJ Khaled has nearly become synonymous with Snapchat, where he shares his so-called “keys to success.”

In an interview with TIME editor Sam Lansky, the hip-hop artist talked about his inspirational messages and his trademark optimism behind them.

“I’m just being me. I wake up everyday inspiring myself, because God gave me life,” he tells Lansky. “I’m honored that everybody’s inspired off my inspiration. We all want to win more, but it’s all about being blessed and embracing your blessings. We have life.”

Khaled says that even though Snapchat has cast a spotlight on it, his positive outlook is nothing new. “Even before Snapchat, you go back into my career from Day One or interview people that knew me for 25 years, they’re going to tell you I’ve been DJ Khaled my whole life,” he tells Lansky. “I’ve been telling the keys.”
