Olivia Munn will cut a swath through this month’s X-Men: Apocalypse as the psychic swordfighter Psylocke, but, at one point, she had the chance to be in another of this year’s superhero movies. Munn told American Way that she was initially offered Morena Baccarin’s role in Deadpool, but turned it down because she didn’t want to play a girlfriend role again. Hence Psylocke, who kicks butt in her own right.

“I thought Psylocke was always one of the most lethal characters, and I said, ‘Yes, as long as you’re not using her to be the eye candy. She has really powerful abilities,’” Munn said. “And they said, ‘Yes, that’s an important part.’ ”

The producers warned Munn that the part wouldn’t involve a lot of dialogue, but she was okay with that as long as there was a fight scene.

“The fight scene could be her monologue,” Munn said.

X-Men: Apocalypse is in theaters on May 27.
