Prince nearly appeared on Kendrick Lamar’s album To Pimp a Butterfly last year. While they never joined forces on a studio recording, the duo once shared the spotlight.

The Prince Museum has unearthed footage of The Purple One — who died last month — and Lamar performing in 2014 for a private crowd at Paisley Park Studios, celebrating the release of Prince’s albums, Plectrumelectrum and Art Official Age. Lamar freestyled a verse before ceding to the band’s rocking rendition of Prince’s 1998 song “What’s My Name.”
