Jay Leno is getting animated about his love for cars.

The former host of NBC’s The Tonight Show — and current host of CNBC’s Jay Leno’s Garage — will play himself on The Simpsons, EW has learned.

In the May 8 episode of the animated Fox comedy, titled “To Courier with Love” — which involves Homer taking a top-secret briefcase to Paris in exchange for a family vacation discount — Homer discovers an old car piled underneath some trash in his basement, and Leno winds up buying the antique vehicle.

How did Leno come to be cast in this cameo role? (See the Simpsonized version of him above.) “We just said, ‘He’s the one guy that this plot would make sense for,'” Simpsons executive producer Al Jean tells EW. “There is no one who is simultaneously as funny and who knows more about cars than Jay Leno.”

And Leno proved it when he showed up to record his lines. “We had a marble interior,” says Jean, “and he goes, ‘They didn’t have marble interiors in those cars, they had wooden interiors! Whoever did this didn’t quite know their cars!'”

Leno, who played himself in a season 9 episode, joins a Simpsons guest roster this season that includes the cast of Girls, Kristen Bell, Nick Kroll, Blake Anderson, Glenn Close, Sofia Vergara, Stephen Merchant, and George Takei.
