Kanye West and Jay Z were originally featured on “Pop Style” off Drake’s just-released new album Views, but when the collection dropped Thursday, verses from the two stars (who were dubbed “The Throne”) were nowhere to be found. “I just ended up going with my version of the song,” Drake told Beats 1’s Zane Lowe Friday.

“It didn’t play out how I wanted it to go,” he went on. “Sometimes [Jay Z and I] just fall on opposite sides of the spectrum.” There’s no beef between them though: “It’s always mutual respect, but sometimes it has to be from afar.”

And just because West’s verse is no longer there doesn’t mean the Life of Pablo rapper is completely absent from the album. West got a production credit on “U With Me?” and Drake tells Lowe he’s “one of my favorite people.” “He’s a really good guy,” he said. “I grew up with him as a role model … It’s amazing to be his friend.”
