Lest there be any gray area, starring in an action movie isn’t a full-on CGI experience. It can take a physical toll on its stars, too.

Take X-Men: Apocalypse star Olivia Munn. It was the actress’ first foray as a superhero (she played reporter Chess Roberts in Iron Man 2), and her turn as Psylocke wasn’t without its bumps. No, really: She shared a #TBT photo of all the bruises incurred during training and filming.

Munn mentioned this photo in February and described how she hurt herself.

“I did get hurt training. Most of it was self-inflicted,” she said during a Twitter Q&A. “I have a picture of my leg on my right side just completely bruised literally from my ankle all the way up my thigh, and that was just when I was at home trying to learn sword by myself, and this is before I asked for maybe a not-so-sharp blade to practice with.”

X-Men: Apocalypse opens May 27.
