Matt Ross’ eccentric family dramedy Captain Fantastic first premiered at the Sundance Film Festival earlier this year, and it’s soon headed to Cannes. Now, Bleecker Street has dropped the first official trailer, introducing us to Viggo Mortensen and his quirky, forest-dwelling family.

Mortensen stars as a father who’s raised his six kids in almost total isolation in the woods. When his wife dies, he and his family leave their Pacific Northwest paradise to attend her funeral in New Mexico, and although his kids are well-versed in literature and political theory, they soon realize that they have a lot to learn about the outside world.

Captain Fantastic opens in the U.S. on July 8, and Kathryn Hahn, Steve Zahn, and Frank Langella also star. Watch the first trailer below, via IMDb.
