The future is now for Sylvia Hoeks. The Dutch actress has landed a leading role opposite Harrison Ford and Ryan Gosling in Alcon Entertainment’s Blade Runner sequel, the company announced Tuesday.
Ford is reprising his role as the replicant-hunting cop Rick Deckard in the yet-untitled sci-fi film, which is set several decades after the Ridley Scott-directed original, but further plot and character details are being kept under wraps. Production is scheduled to start in July.
The cast also includes Robin Wright, Dave Bautista, and Ana de Armas.
Denis Villeneuve (Incendies, Sicario) is directing the sequel from a script by Hampton Fancher — who co-wrote the 1982 original, based on Philip K. Dick’s novel Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? — and Michael Green. Scott is on board as a producer.
Hoeks has appeared in several Dutch and European films and TV series, including the big-screen drama Tirza, the 2010 Dutch entry for best foreign language film.
Warner Bros. will release the Blade Runner sequel on Oct. 6, 2017.
